The Safer Communities Strategy

“The Safer Communities Strategy provides a framework for partnership work in and with communities to tackle the causes and consequences of crime, anti-social behaviour and drugs and alcohol misuse and the fear of crime, thereby creating safer communities and providing greater reassurance.

We will work with and engage communities in a manner that is open, honest and acknowledges diversity.”
Kirklees Safer Communities Strategy 2005 – 2008

We are currently working from our third Safer Communities Strategy.

The Safer Communities Strategy sets out a long-term vision for achieving quite challenging targets in relation to key priorities identified through the audit and consultation exercises.

Each year the Partnership develops action plans, prescribing exactly how partners will work together to achieve the targets outlined in the strategy.

These plans are managed by individual ‘theme-groups’ such as the burglary or hate crime theme group.

Theme groups exist for almost all of the crime types listed on the left-hand menu of this page. Click on each type of crime to read the action plans and discover more about our work in that area.
